The doctoral school STEP (ED STEP for Ecole Doctorale Sciences de la Terre, de l’Environnement et des Planètes) is a thematic doctoral school of the Grenoble area (including Chambéry et Valence). ED STEP is one of the 13 doctoral schools of the Doctoral College of Université Grenoble Alpes.

The Doctoral School is responsible for:
To organise the competitive recruitment process for the Contrats Doctoraux d'Etablissement of the Université Grenoble Alpes and to ensure the quality of applications for theses financed by other means,
Informing and ensuring the pedagogical and administrative follow-up of doctoral students, from the first registration until the thesis is defended, in compliance with the thesis charter and in close collaboration with the host laboratories and teams,
Organising, in conjunction with the Doctoral Schools College, training courses, assignments and activities that are useful for the doctoral student's research project, the acquisition of additional skills and their professional project,
Assisting supervisors in their training mission. The HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) committee is thus attached to the Earth and Environmental Sciences Doctoral School.
Contribute to the attractiveness and promotion of doctoral studies at national and international level, in both the academic and industrial sectors.
