Financing your PhD

Doctoral contracts
UGA and USMB assign two types of doctoral contracts to our Doctoral School each year:

• “Ordinary” Doctoral Contracts; they are the subject of a competition (https://edstep.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/candidater/concours-et-contrats-doctoraux/concours-contrats-doctoraux-step-788056.kjsp?RH=441704624297326) organized according to a specific schedule.

• So-called "arrowed" Doctoral Contracts are awarded by the various mechanisms of the IDEX "University of Grenoble Alpes: University of Innovation” (Strategic Research Initiatives –IRS-, International Strategic Partnership –ISP-, Cross-Disciplinary Projects -CDP)

CIFRE agreements

The CIFRE agreements associate, around a research project allowing the preparation of a doctorate, three partners: a company, a laboratory and the doctoral student.
The subject of research most often has an applied character.
The company must be under French law, it is most often the project initiator. During the thesis, the company employs the PhD student with a 3-year contract (CDD) or a permanent position (CDI). The company benefits from a grant from the Ministry of Research managed by the ANRT. Since September 1, 2007 , the minimum wage has been €1,957 gross monthly.

The laboratory can be in a university, a school or a public research organization.

The CIFRE agreement can be set up at any time during the year.
