Theses under joint supervision

Preparing a thesis in joint supervision with a foreign university means that the research work will take place in parallel in two universities (one French/one foreign), in order to obtain a doctoral degree from each of the two universities.

This implies each year, and until the defence:

  • - registration in both institutions
  • - stays in both institutions
  • - A host laboratory and a research team (therefore a thesis director) in each institution,

A joint supervision agreement defines the conditions for the progress of the thesis and sets the operating rules. It is drafted and signed by the two partner institutions.

The terms are defined in the decree of May 26, 2016, Title III, articles 20 to 23
